Baker Tree Service LLC Emerald Ash Borer
The Emerald Ash Borer is an invasive insect that is not native to the United States. However by transportation of raw materials such as firewood, wood pallets, and raw logs the invasive insect Emerald Ash Borer has found its way into the United States.
Unfortunately it has hit local in our area. The first reported incident was near Detroit, Michigan in 2002 and since we have reports of the EAB in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia.
The spread has been increased by humans from transporting raw material from county and state to state such as firewood, raw logs, wood pallets, etc. The insect kills both healthy and struggling ash trees so it is a huge threat to the local ash tree population. You can help decrease the spread by knowing what to look for in your firewood.
Always buy local, burn local. Also check for as D shaped exit hole in your ash trees or ash firewood to make sure you aren't already infested or in contact with the infestation.
